Where your money goes
The Treesource Foundation secured its first parcel of rainforest in October 2007. Two Hundred acres of mainly primary forest in the upper regions of the Peruvian Amazon. The land has since been renamed Reina de la Selva (Queen of the Forest). It is our test bed for current projects, while also providing some food security for the Sanctuario Huistine community and caretaker.
We are paying a monthly salary for caretaker and management/gardening duties as buying land is only the first step in preserving the forest, if it is not inhabited and watched, illegal logging and clandestine agriculture/cattle ranching is a common occurrence.
An area of around 20 acres that was cleared before we purchased the land is being cultivated for agriculture and turned into a forest garden. Some of this area is now wild again and is being reforested with hardwoods and planted with medicinal shrubs and plants.
We also financially support Santuario Huistine a natural medicine and shamanic center. So far money has been donated for planting projects, general upkeep and renovation of communal buildings. This community is situated next door to our land and is the vision of Enrique and Reina who have also seeded, built and currently run the place. It is here that we run our bi-yearly shamanic training and forest living retreats. We have had close ties with the Santuario for over three years and it is through Enrique that we negotiated the Buying of our Treesource land.
Currently overheads for the foundation are minimal. It is only now two years after conception that we are building a web site and spending money on infrastructure. It is part of our philosophy that as much of the donated money goes directly to where it is needed in the forest. This means nearly all of you donations are being put to work on the ground rather than being used for administration and management salaries.
We are currently in the process of registering as a charity in the uk so you may gift aid donations. All services this side (ie in the uk) have so far been donated.. (website build, administration, labor, time buying the land, translation services, legal advice/paperwork, implementing/managing projects & planting)
As the project develops we are planning to develop the infrastructure and front end of the charity. Relying on people donating time and energy for free has its limits and we will be looking to employing project managers and administration staff so we are better equipped to sustainably do the work necessary to save more forest and continue our projects. This will seemingly channel resources away from the forest but it will be proportionate to the tasks at hand and will allow the foundation to grow sustainably and attract more abundance in the long term.
For more detailed information on where your money goes please look at the news section of the website and look at the galleries to see first hand the results of your support. Your donations and fundraising are invaluable. Thankyou!
As we speak land around the treesource projects is being slashed ready to be burned and within two years rainforest with be pasture land for cattle grazing. We are currently making inquires into possible purchase of this land to halt the process.
Future plans/objectives as funds become available include:
Having a land protection fund available to purchase forest that is in danger of being cleared for agriculture, ranching or industrial use.
Developing a rainforest permaculture center in the amazon region
Create a sustainable business in dried fruits and rainforest superfoods
